How Solar Water Heating Works
SunEarth offers a variety of solar water heating solutions that allow you to use the sun’s power to provide hot water for all your needs. A solar water heater system is straightforward. It uses the sun’s energy to heat a solar collector filled with solar fluid, which then transfers that heat into your home’s hot water tank. The solar fluid in the system protects against freezing.
When there is sufficient heat to be drawn from the collectors, a controller automatically turns the system on and activates the pumps.
- Heated solar fluid is circulated from the collector.
- The fluid passes through a heat exchanger, where its heat is transferred to the water in the solar storage tank.
- The solar-heated water in the solar storage tank is then drawn into the main water heater.
This circulation loop continues as long as heat is drawn from the collector. Even when there is little or no sun, the main water heater will still function, providing ample hot water for your home.

American Water Heaters
Residential Solar Electric Booster Tanks
A solar system can reduce utility costs for water heating by up to 70%. The American Solar Booster Tanks are a direct replacement option to extend the life of your solar water heating system. Both direct and indirect booster tanks are available to work with almost any system.
American direct solar water heaters are designed for installation as part of a direct (open loop) solar water heating system or for use with external heat exchangers in closed-loop systems. They are available in 65, 80, and 119-gallon capacities and provide storage for the hot water produced by the solar collectors. Supplementary electric heating elements maintain consistent water temperature during periods when solar energy is not available.

Features
- Multiple Connection Options for Installation Flexibility: Side and top connections for open-loop systems or closed-loop systems using an external heat exchanger.
- Electrical: A 4500-watt heating element with a long-lasting, low-watt density design spreads wattage over a larger surface area to prolong element life and maximize efficiency. Pre-wired for surface mount temperature sensor (sensor supplied separately).
- Tank Construction: A glass-lined steel tank protects against corrosion to maximize tank life. The 2-inch thick “Environmentally-Friendly” Non-CFC Foam insulation (R16 Value) reduces standby heat loss.
- Anode Rod: A stainless steel core protects the tank against corrosion.
